Meet Tucker, owner, of Maxwell Custom Beef

My name is Tucker Maxwell, and I grew up on a 7th-generation farm in Maxwell, Iowa. In middle school, my dad took me to a farm north of ours, where I bought my first three calves. I went on to show two heifers and one steer at the Story County Fair, entering the steer in a carcass class. That was my first real experience with the butcher side of the cattle industry.

Not long after, I followed in my family’s footsteps and started working at Golly’s Locker. There, I assisted with boning and wrapping beef and pork, as well as processing deer. It was there that I truly appreciated the quality of the meat and the unique experience of purchasing locally sourced meat from a local butcher, something you can't replicate online or in a grocery store.

I attended the University of South Dakota, and after spending time in South Dakota and northern Florida, I decided to move back to central Iowa. During my time away, I realized that many people are not aware that you can buy beef in bulk directly from farmers. As I talked with others and became more conscious of what I was eating, I saw a clear need for quality, locally sourced beef. Beyond that, I also believe there’s a growing desire for people to form connections with the individuals who grow their food.

The mission of Maxwell Custom Beef is to transform the process of purchasing freezer beef into a memorable experience for customers. Quality beef should be seen as an investment in your health, your family, and your future. By offering exceptional beef and connecting farmers with Iowans, we hope to foster lasting memories and relationships.

Whether you choose Maxwell Custom Beef or another local butcher, I encourage you to support local businesses, visit a nearby cattle farmer, and truly experience the amazing people and animals behind this industry.

Thank you, and I’ll see you around!
